Judge: Homeschooling a 'concrete endangerment' to kids

Bob Unruh
8 January

"[Family Court Judge Marcus] Malkmus compared homeschooling to having the children wear a straitjacket and said he had to make sure the children remained in Germany so they would be integrated into society.

He feared “the children would grow up in a parallel society without having learned to be integrated or to have a dialogue with those who think differently and facing them in the sense of practicing tolerance.”

Such treatment, he warned would be “concrete endangerment to the wellbeing of the child.”"

HSLDA Coverage of Story

Home-schooled children usually end up better able to 'integrate' themselves in the larger society that is the norm, after children leave the nest of family, than those who are sequestered by a 'peer' grouping that, once they are out of school, will cease to ever be the reality again.

The real world—especially the work force—is made of a myriad of ages. Not peers. To isolate and/or group by peer is an artificial design that is not seen anywhere else in society—neither in the family unit itself, nor in the world after school.

Nothing in peer grouping can be thought to prepare for the reality of the myriad of ages that exist in all forms in the world at large.

Insofar as a dialogue with those who 'think differently,' I do not remember such diversity being the rule in peer groupings. Peers tend to isolate those who are different and mold according to a more pronounced herd instinct.

The key to how a child turns out, in any case, is the parent. Judge Malkmus' inability to allow the return of these children to their parents so that the family can relocate to France, where home education is 'legal,' appalls, as much as terrifies.

The parallel case where in the Romeike family has sought asylum here in America, yet is being refused that asylum by the Obama administration, likewise seems pressed by that rough beast whose hour is come round at last.

UPDATE [12 January 2014] I changed the image in the final paragraph to the more fitting one, which alludes, as we all know, to W. B. Yeats and his poem, The Second Coming.

Reported Christian 'martyr' deaths double in 2013

Tom Heneghan
The Daily Star | Lebanon
8 January 2014

"Open Doors, a non-denominational group supporting persecuted Christians worldwide, said on Wednesday it had documented 2,123 "martyr" killings, compared with 1,201 in 2012. There were 1,213 such deaths in Syria alone last year, it said.

"This is a very minimal count based on what has been reported in the media and we can confirm," said Frans Veerman, head of research for Open Doors. Estimates by other Christian groups put the annual figure as high as 8,000. "

Muslim Persecution of Christians: October, 2013

Raymond Ibrahim

"While not all, or even most, Muslims are involved, the persecution of Christians in the Islamic world is on its way to reaching pandemic proportions.  Accordingly, “Muslim Persecution of Christians” was developed to collate some—by no means all—of the instances of persecution that surface each month. It serves two purposes:

1)    To document that which the mainstream media does not: the habitual, if not chronic, persecution of Christians.

2)    To show that such persecution is not “random,” but systematic and interrelated—that it is rooted in a worldview inspired by Sharia."

Satanic Temple unveils 7-foot goat-headed Baphomet statue for Oklahoma Capitol

Eric W. Dolan
The Raw Story
7 January 2014

"“The monument has been designed to reflect the views of Satanists in Oklahoma City and beyond. The statue will serve as a beacon calling for compassion and empathy among all living creatures. The statue will also have a functional purpose as a chair where people of all ages may sit on the lap of Satan for inspiration and contemplation,” spokesman Lucien Greaves explained."

It is merely plans for the statue that have been unveiled. And yes, it is more than offensive, as Rep. Earl Sears (R-Bartlesville) says in the article posted herein.  “This is a faith-based nation and a faith-based state,” Rep. Earl Sears (R-Bartlesville) said. “I think it is very offensive they would contemplate or even have this kind of conversation.”

Unfortunately, freedom of religion allows…

I have always eyed freedom of religion, expecting this.

And can only hope that laws, or public referendums, or petitions, or some such, will keep this monstrosity from coming to roost in Oklahoma City.

A nation without godliness as its rule will easily falter in appropriate exercise of freedom—and will end up exactly where we have. The dilemma before us: how to establish (and/or regain) freedom when it, certainly, ends at each other's nose…

When common decency and good order are no longer the rule of it…

When lawlessness masquerades as law…

When a republic has been replaced by a democracy, which the centuries taught long ago could not survive…

If the majority does not stand, and fight, and make headway…

Not going to be a pretty picture in Oklahoma.

Inappropriate Reactions

Michael Boldea, Jr.
Homeward Bound
3 January 2014

"Given the current spiritual climate, there are only a handful of appropriate responses, especially when it concerns the leaders, or the spiritual authorities of our time. For many, the only appropriate response is mourning, and weeping, and repenting in sackcloth and ash for having led the people of God astray, and having taught a fraudulent, powerless gospel subservient to the flesh for so many years."
