Peonage for the Twenty-First Century

Anthony Esolen
Public Discourse
6 December 2013

"I have said many hard things about the poor preparation of many of our public school teachers, about English teachers who do not know grammar and who cannot write, about history teachers who settle down into current events, requiring no broad reading or knowledge, about math teachers who have no facility with numbers, and about foreign language teachers who hold their students in bonds for four years and yet do not manage to teach them how to read a newspaper, much less Don Quixote or Les Miserables. "

Street Preacher Arrested…

Christian Concern
9 January 2014

"Andrea Minichiello Williams, Chief Executive of the Christian Legal Centre, says the incident raises serious questions about police procedure and understanding of the law in dealing with such incidents.

“This appears to be an overzealous reaction by the police. The incident, adds to the number of arrests of Christian street evangelists for preaching from the Bible. It is indicative of the suppression of the freedom to speak  and live out the words of Jesus Christ in public and present the teachings of the Bible,” says Andrea."

Pastor: Obama is paving the way for the Antichrist

Sarah Pulliam Bailey
Religion News Service
8 January 2014

"“While I am not suggesting that President Obama is the Antichrist, the fact that he was able to propose such a sweeping change in God’s law and still win reelection by a comfortable margin illustrates how a future world leader will be able to oppose God’s laws without any repercussions.”"

Of mice and men – and the drive to create cures from harvested humans

Celeste McGovern
The Christians
9 January 2014

"To find a way around the problem, these scientists grafted human fetal thymus and liver tissue from aborted fetuses into immune-deficient lab mice. This created a highly specialized “humanized mouse model” capable of rejecting embryonic cells just as human patients do."

Christian Bakers File Appeal in Same-Sex Wedding Cake Case

Melanie Korb
Charisma News
9 January 2014

"Alliance Defending Freedom has filed an appeal on behalf of a Lakewood, Colo., cake artist who declined to use his creative talents to promote and endorse a same-sex wedding ceremony. In December, the Colorado Administrative Law Court ruled that the cake artist, Jack Phillips, must create cakes for same-sex wedding ceremonies and then prove he has complied with the coerced speech order."

504 Documented Examples of Obama’s Lies, Lawbreaking, Corruption, Cronyism, Etc.

Tim Brown
Freedom Outpost
9 January 2014

"Some of the things on this list are major events that should scare the daylights out of any true liberal who cares about civil liberties.

Other things on this list are medium things that some Obama supporters may dislike, but would be willing to overlook in light of the things that Obama has done which they like.

And some of the things on this list may seem trivial, but I still think they are an interesting reflection of the kinds of policies that Obama supports."

plagues, and then again…

Nightmare outbreak of drug-resistant bacteria

Meghan Keneally
The Daily Mail
8 January 2014

"The Centers for Disease Control has discovered 44 cases where patients in Illinois had a particular bacteria and 38 of those individuals had all recently undergone an endoscopic procedure at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in the past year.

The bacteria, carbapenem-resistant enterobacteriaceae (CRE), is extremely difficult to treat because it has unusually high levels of tolerance to antibiotics."

It is interesting that the word usually translated 'plagues' in most English translations of Scripture is (even in Revelation) better translated, "calamity," or perhaps affliction, or even via a figurative use (or perhaps not?) of the word, blows (as in, that which produces wounds).

Rev. 9:18, after all, utilizes the same word to speak of "three 'plagues' of fire, smoke and sulfur" as to speak of 'the seven last plagues' found in Rev. 15:1.

However, the lay of the land with medical plagues, in the modern day, is most rife with its own fulfillment of a more traditional understanding of the term.

Comedians Performing “Night of a Thousand V--s” Fundraiser for Abortion

Cortney O'Brien
Life News
8 January 2014

"Just the fact that Silverman’s name is on the marquee should be enough to turn away any mature person. The “comedian” seems to thrive on using her lady parts for humor. In November, she hosted a pro-choice Texas telethon along with co-creator of The Daily Show Lizz Winstead. That event featured v--a costumes, filthy language and just plain vulgar gestures."

Apology to readers. I am obviously (painfully?) from an era that is not quite comfortable with particular words being bandied about.

Many thanks to Cortney for getting word out there on this vulgarity and to Steve Quayle for the hat tip. The developing pattern of unparalleled vulgarity should certainly show the hour…

(And do expect my readers to know that 'the new black' is a reference to simply the most elegant and most understatedly sophisticated and most 'must have' and most 'new' that a dress might be!)

Man gives up everything, walks across U.S. making reparation for sins of abortion, family breakdown

Peter Baklinski
Life Site News
7 January 2014

"The word “pilgrim” conjures up images of someone from the Middle Ages dressed in tattered robes and traveling across Europe or Russia with a staff and a ragged bundle slung across his back. While Byerly is a modern pilgrim with modern tools, such as an iPad for communicating and for tracing out his route, he is driven by that same mysterious hunger felt by pilgrims of all ages, a hunger for God and for his Kingdom to come."
